Find the breathing rate that suits you. Then train it.
BreathBook is a breathing trainer in virtual reality for Meta Quest. It finds a person's own resonance breathing rate, trains breathing at a chosen rate and runs ready-made breathing exercises, or your own. On your own, or guided by a specialist: a doctor or a session operator.
What the person sees
A breathing circle floats in front of them. One cycle has four phases: inhale, hold, exhale, hold, with the holds marked on the circle. A glowing particle travels around it and the current phase is named inside. Particles in the air around the person are drawn in on the inhale and fly out on the exhale. Everything on screen moves with the breathing cycle.
Above the circle runs the breathing curve. At the top of the view: the current task and the time left in the section.
With CleverPoint 4 on the headset
A heart rhythm curve from the ECG under the circle. Ideally it follows the breathing curve.
Two live indicator gauges on the left and right, computed from the heart and the facial channels. A task can be, for example, to move each gauge in the direction the specialist sets.
After the session: one chart with the breathing and heart rhythm curves laid over each other. If they diverge at the start and come together by the end, that is a good result.
The CleverPoint status overlay inside the headset.
The trainer: two modes
Search for the resonance rate
The person breathes at one rate after another across a set range. CleverPoint 4 records the ECG and the other channels; from that recording CleverLab finds the rate that suits this particular person best and feels most comfortable.
Session parameters:
start and end breathing rate, in breaths per minute
step between rates
section length at each rate, 60 to 300 seconds
warm-up cycles before the main cycles at each rate, so breathing settles after the change; the analysis weighs them less
phase ratio inhale – hold – exhale – hold: standard or your own
With a specialist or on your own.
Training
Breathing at a set rate, for instance the resonance rate found in Search. The specialist sets the goal of the training: calming down, raising alertness, and so on.
Scenarios
Ready-made breathing exercises, each with a task of its own. A basic set comes with the product, and you can add your own (see below). Each scenario carries:
a task and a description
a duration
several difficulty levels
a counter of completed repetitions
prompts along the way
Scenarios work for solo practice and for sessions with a specialist.
Choosing a scenario in the headset: the basic set, its duration, repetitions and difficulty.
Your protocols, your courses
BreathBook is not a fixed set of exercises. Organisations and specialists build their own breathing protocols for their tasks and their clients, and give each one easy, medium and hard levels, so a single scenario becomes a course.
Your own protocols
Turn the method you already teach into a breathing scenario in the headset: its task and description, duration and the prompts the person sees along the way. It appears in the menu next to the basic set, for solo practice or with a specialist.
From easy to hard
Give your scenario its own levels: easy, medium and hard. A client starts on the easy one and moves up as their breathing gets better, so one scenario turns into a whole course. With CleverPoint 4 and CleverLab every session is recorded, so you see how the body's response changes from level to level.
Three ways to run it
BreathBook
The breathing trainer with the visual pacing of the breathing rhythm. Headset only.
BreathBook + CleverPoint 4
Live physiology on screen: heart rhythm and two indicator gauges; the result chart after the session.
BreathBook + CleverPoint 4 + CleverLab
Full analysis of the physiological state on the PC, reports, and the course of every session with all its parameters.
BreathBook ships with the Stressonika module; see pricing. The same headset and sensors run PMR for progressive muscle relaxation.
