6.3. Coherence Calculation Method

Formula: the mscohere (Magnitude Squared Coherence) function is used:
[Cxy, F] = mscohere(signal1, signal2, [], [], frequencies, Fs)

Parameters:

  • signal1, signal2: signals from two electrodes after processing
  • frequencies: frequency vector for calculation (from df to 50 Hz with step df)
  • Fs: sampling frequency

Mathematical definition:
Cxy(f) = |Pxy(f)|^2 / (Pxx(f) * Pyy(f))

where:

  • Pxy(f): cross-spectral power density
  • Pxx(f), Pyy(f): auto-spectral power densities

Value range:

  • 0 ≤ Cxy ≤ 1
  • 0: complete absence of coherence
  • 1: full coherence
